On Monday, May 26, at 12:43am, Officers observed damage to a bench on Olive Walk. A service request was filed. On Monday, May 26, at 2:20am, Security responded to a report of a vehicle accident on California Blvd. Officers secured the scene and notified the Pasadena Police Department. On Tuesday, May 27, at 2:02pm, Security took a report of a threat at Karman. The victim advised Officers that a suspicious email was sent to him demanding money. The victim contacted the FBI and the Pasadena Police Department regarding the email. On Tuesday, May 27, at 6:29pm, Security responded to a chemical incident at Beckman Institute. The victim advised Officers that a fluorescent bulb broke and landed in a tank of Mercury water. Officers contacted Safety personnel and cordoned off the area until the water and the bulb could be properly disposed. On Wednesday, May 28, at 10:23am, Security took a report of a bicycle theft that occurred at 1001 E. Villa St. The victim advised Officers that his bicycle was stolen between 8:00am on May 24 and 12:00pm May 27. He stated that he had locked his bicycle with a cable-style lock on the bicycle rack within the courtyard of the building. On Wednesday, May 28, at 10:50am, Security responded to a fire alarm in Steele Lab. Officers responded and conducted a sweep of the building and found no evidence of smoke or fire. Officers advised the Fire Alarm Technicians of the false alarm. On Wednesday, May 28, at 2:38pm, Security took a report of a bicycle theft that occurred at 1001 E. Villa St. The victim advised Officers that his bicycle was stolen between 5:00am on May 21 and 12:00pm May 27. He stated that he had locked his bicycle with a U lock on the front tire on the bicycle rack within the courtyard of the building. On Thursday, May 29, at 12:14pm, Security took a report of a vehicle burglary in Lura Lot. The victim advised Officers that his vehicle was broken into and his laptop was stolen. The perpetrator made entry into the vehicle by breaking the passenger side rear door. The victim advised Officers that nothing else was stolen and that he would file a police report with the Pasadena Police Department. On Thursday, May 29, at 1:35pm, Security responded to a medical incident at Parsons-Gates. The victim refused transportation and further medical treatment. On Friday, May 30, at 6:17am, Security responded to a duct alarm at Avery Center. Officers conducted a sweep of the building and found that the alarm was activated by steam that condensed on the detector. Officers reset the fire system. On Friday, May 30, at 3:37pm, Security responded to a medical incident at 217 S. Holliston Ave. The victim was issued taxi vouchers for further medical treatment. On Friday, May 30, at 7:13pm, Security responded to a medical incident at the Braun Athletic Center. The victim refused transportation and further medical treatment. On Saturday, May 31, at 1:48am, Security responded to a fire alarm in the Student Activities Center. Officers conducted a sweep of the area and found that the alarm had been activated from smoke from a fog machine. The area was vented and the fire system was reset. On Saturday, May 31, at 2:19am, Security responded to multiple fire alarm activations in the Student Activities Center. Officers conducted a sweep of the area and found that the system had activated due to large amounts of the chemical from two fire extinguishers. Officers vented the area to clear the chemical and reset the fire system. On Saturday, May 31, at 12:12pm, Security responded to a fire alarm at 362 S. Catalina Ave. Officers conducted a sweep of the building and found that the alarm had been set off by burned food. Officers ventilated the area and reset the fire system. On Saturday, May 31, at 7:07pm, Security responded to a medical incident at the Braun Athletic Center. The victim was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital by an associate. On Sunday, June 1, at 12:45pm, Security observed a suspicious male on the west side of Moore Lab. Officers followed the suspect as he entered Dabney Hall and entered the men’s restroom. Officers remained in the area and approached the suspect as he exited the building. A check for previous contact with the suspect revealed a prior incident with the suspect and Officers took him into custody. The Pasadena Police Department was notified of the arrest and took custody of the suspect upon their arrival. Police Officers advised Caltech Officers that the suspect was a well-known gang member and was a career criminal.
