Re: Threat Against the Campus Community
Early this morning, we were notified about a concerning post on a graduate student forum. In it, an individual who said they were frustrated at having unsuccessfully applied for admission to a graduate program at Caltech threatened violence against the campus community and themselves.
We are taking this threat seriously. Caltech Security and Pasadena police have increased patrols around campus. All doors on campus buildings are locked and can be opened via key or keycard access only. Furthermore, Caltech Security is working closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate this threat.
If you see anything concerning or have any relevant information about this threat, call Security immediately at extension 5000 from any campus phone or 626-395-5000 from any off-campus phone.
One of the pillars of Caltech is its small, tight-knit community. Caltech has mental health resources ready and available to help members of the community navigate this added stress during already trying times:
- Students may contact Student Counseling Services for consultation and support by calling (626) 395-8331.
- Staff members may utilize the Staff and Faculty Consultation Center. The Staff and Faculty Consultation Center is currently providing phone consultations, and has created TheWell@Caltech, an online library of resources.
