Campus Incident Report – December 9, 2024
Four undergraduate houses and a stretch of California Boulevard between Arden Road and Hill Avenue were temporarily evacuated by local authorities in the morning on Monday, December 9, 2024, as Pasadena Police officers and Caltech Security responded to a bomb threat to campus. Authorities conducted a full sweep of the area and nearby buildings and determined that there was no active threat to campus. A suspicious package was found, but it was determined that the package was not a bomb or other explosive device.
As of 10 a.m., full access to the campus, including the evacuated residences, had resumed and traditional campus activities were able to continue.
In the event that members of the campus community need to take immediate action or respond to an emergency on campus, Caltech Security will notify all members of the community via the Everbridge emergency notification system. These messages may be delivered by email, text message, or phone. We strongly recommend that all members of the community ensure that their contact information is current in access.caltech.
Caltech Security is available 24/7 at extension 5000, which may be dialed from any campus phone, or 626-395-5000.
